On June 23rd 2023, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who had been fighting against Ukraine in the Bakhmut area with his Wagner Group, startled the world when he turned around and chose to march on Moscow instead. But a day after, he halted. Lukashenko, president of Belarus, had pleaded, ‘Why spill more Russian blood?’ In turn, Prigozhin would be assured protection – Putin’s word. Prigozhin agreed. Two months later he was dead.
